This project is to install electricity to serve mariners who use the Anson Road Dock, Horton Bay Mayne Island.
The Association of Boaters of Mayne Island (AMIB) proposes to partner with The Southern Gulf Island Harbours’ Commission and Capital Regional District (SGI/CRD) to install electricity to Anson Road Dock, Mayne Island (the Dock).
Supply of electricity to the Dock will increase the use of the Dock, especially over winter. Electrical supply will broaden the functionality of the Dock for all boaters.
The timelines are: raising a pre-requisite capital fund by March 31st. 2026, and the physical installation of the electrical supply through 2026 to finish by the fall of that year.

Questions and Answers January 14, 2026
Question 1: Who is paying for the installation of electrical services? Will my property taxes increase? Answer: “The total cost of the electrical installation is estimated at $87,000. The initial $85,000 of the funding will come from this public fundraising initiative. Once this amount is secured in pledges, CRD will take over the electrical installation, management and ongoing maintenance of the project. This project will not affect property taxes.” Reply by AMIB board.
Question 2: Who will pay for the ongoing maintenance of the electrical service? Answer: “Ongoing maintenance of the electrical service will be covered by the CRD as part of its regular harbour operations budget.” Reply by AMIB board.
Question 3: Does the electrical installation include permanent lighting on the dock? Answer: “No, CRD and AMIB are sensitive to any light pollution from Anson Road Dock. The project proposal does not include the installation of permanent lights on the dock.” Association of Mayne Island Boaters.
Question 4: Is my donation tax deductible? Answer: “Donations are eligible for a tax deduction or tax credit, as permitted by the Canada Revenue Agency. A Capital Regional District Donation Form specific to this project must be submitted along with payment to the CRD to receive proof of donation.” Stephen Henderson - General Manager CRD Electoral Area Services
Question 5: Will liveaboards come with the electricity? Answer: “No. Liveaboards are illegal at Anson Road Dock.” Enforcement is by: Wharfinger, Coast Guard and RCMP.
Question 6: Will moorage rates increase? Answer: “The dock is less than 50% moorage capacity over winter. Provision of electricity for dehumidifiers/heaters will increase by some 6-9 the number of boats moored. Increased revenue ($2,500 for each 30-foot boat over winter) will offset CRD financing costs, therefore reduce the need to increase moorage rates.”
Question 7: ‘Stray currents’ due to electricity will cause corrosion. Answer: “The professionally wired Leviton Marine receptacle boxes are designed to prevent ‘stray currents’.” Eecol Electric Victoria.
