I got some good shots with you on Friday and quite a few on Sunday as I went as photographer on Carl's boat. He had Sharon, Wayne Ming and Bob and Mary McKinnon as crew. The day started out cloudy, cool and rained for a while, then turned out quite nice later on. Blair was by himself, Al Maxwell had Bill Duggan, Trond and Julie's daughter as crew, Brian had several young people who I don't know (one is the new diver, Jeff Hochhalter, and his family). Richard had Norm Price and some other young people I don't know.

The winning boat was the Eilean Donan owned by Ian and Nes Sutherland.
The race started without a signal, but we got a 5-minute and a one-minute warning. We were trying to get back to the start line when it began. Everyone else was pointed in the right direction. We finished the first leg to Saturna in the lead then headed back to get some close-ups of the boats. Then we rounded the buoy again and headed to Fane Island. Ian's boat got there first, then Richard's. We rounded Fane with Richard on our starboard side (quite close). We returned to Saturna, getting some good shots of Eilean Doonan as we overtook her and more of Brian as he continued on to Fane.

We all rounded Fane, but Brian didn't - he received a booby prize for this (a Kraft dinner) at Browning. After we rounded the buoy at Saturna (for the third time) we got close to Al Maxwell, who decided to bypass the leg to Fane and push on to Port Browning and test out the beer.
We got close to the entrance to Browning and decided to go back and get some more shots of the boats. The wind was strong but unpredictable and we had a few jibes and some really fast sailing on the way back to Saturna. All the guys all took our turns at steering. By the time we got back to the entrance to Browning, Eilean Doonan had crossed the finish line and won the main prize ($20). The food and drink at the pub was great and they said we should come back again. We had a group shot on the dock and headed home. All boats sailed well. Brian came back wing-on-wing and later put out his green Duster. Carl wanted to put out his spinnaker but was overruled. We got back around 4:00

A great day for a race - from drifting to gusting - attached are some photos, sorry they are a bit blurry, time for a new camera.
We propose that ToonTown have the handicap of dragging a sunken dinghy around the course, their romping around us slow boats like a rambunctious puppy just puts us to shame. Great fun it was, and hope to see more get-togethers.

Al Maxwell
Bill Duggan, Leah Hayward, Trond Hansen. Skipper Al Maxwell. Timed our progress, realized that if we did the whole circuit, we'd miss the rendezvous planned for 1300 at Port Browning. It being a FUN race, and not the Swiftsure nor the 360, decided I had to honour the enticement I put out for the crew. First in, beer and lunch, at Port Browning! Should be a trophy or honourable mention or something for not only being first in, but first across the line at the start, and exactly on time for the rendezvous. Maybe something else for drinking the most.... I leave it to the Race Committee to decide all.
