2015 AMIB Spring Picnic at Dinner Bay Park

Eighty AMIB picnickers gathered at Dinner Park on a balmy Saturday afternoon.  This was an increase from 60 attendees last year.A special thanks to the organizers for all their hard work!
Highlights of the day included
  • lunch courtesy of AMIB.  The hamburgers purchased from our Tru-Valu received high praise (and of course the cooks did a great job too!)
  • "boot sale"  which saw chart books, shore power cords, and miscellaneous boating items sold
  • games including the heaving line throw, putting green, and ladder golf
  • disc golf demonstration by expert Darrell Watson

PictureDarrell Watson
Darrell Watson is a successful tournament disc golfer and promotes the game through instructional clinics and course development. With over ten years of disc golf experience and having played courses worldwide he has grown a deep understanding of the sport and what it takes to be successful in it. As a teacher he has developed a program for schools to introduce students to the game. This is achieved through small challenging games where students learn all the shots and skills required to play the game in a fun and interactive way. This year he has taken his game to the next level by achieving his goal of qualifying for Worlds of Disc Golf in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This event guarantees to test every aspect of his game with challenging courses and playing against the highly skilled competition. He is the secretary for the Salt Spring Island Disc Golf Club, assisted in running the Mayne Island disc golf tournament and will be involved in developing the back nine at Dinner Bay Park. He believes in growing the sport in every way possible and does so through showing his love for the sport to others, to use his words “I hope the game can bring you all the fun and friendship it’s brought me.” Darrell’s next goal is to take his disc golf curriculum and share it with other schools in the province in the hope to share his love for the sport even further. You can reach him at mr.d.w.watson@gmail.com and follow him on Instagram @DARRELL_WATSON or pdga.com player #65501; he has also has a crowd funding site to assist him on his journey to the Worlds http://www.gofundme.com/w2qf2w
