A full house of 65 AMIB members donned green and met for an Irish party at the Ag Hall. Thank you to Sue Duncan (Dinners by Design) for catering the dinner and to the AMIB members for bringing desserts and salads. A huge thanks to the AMIB Social Committee for planning this party -- Judy, Diane, Nes, and Sharon.
Happy Hour
The party took place in the Ag Hall which was appropriately decorated with strings of Irish shamrocks on the walls (hanging from the new picture hooks) and Irish centre pieces on the tables. Kathy arrived donning a hybrid Irish bowler decorated with a plume of sails - how appropriate!
The bar, tended by Ted with assistance from Cliff, proved to be very popular since it was stocked with Guinness Draught and Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale.

Kissing the Blarney Stone
On stage the Blarney Stone, covered under a green cloth, was unveiled by Diane who, with the assistance of muscular neighbor Norm had brought it in from her Irish lot. Note the lips that Diane painted on the stone. Everyone who kissed the stone was eligible for a prize - won eventually by Nes.

Irish Stew
Catered by Sue Duncan (Dinners by Design), dinner was a great Irish Stew accompanied by loaves of soda bread for each table, and green veined butter.
AMIB members brought salads and desserts to accompany the meal.
There was so much food that the extra Irish stew and bread were sold off at the end of the evening. The proceeds of approx. $100 were donated to the Mayne Island Food Bank and gratefully accepted by Evan Mitchell a few days later on behalf of the Food Bank.

You're Full of Blarney!
Following dinner, attendees were invited to come up beside the Blarney Stone and tell a story or a joke - a real one or one with some embellishments. With a bit of coaxing from Pres. Allen Slade, the stories and jokes started coming. Winner of the story telling as judged by Ted and Anita was Diane who had an adventurous kayak tale to tell.

Irish Music and Dancing The party was far from over. Next up was a sing-along led by our own Louis Vallee. Songs included My Wild Irish Rose, When Irish Eyes are Smiling, and Danny Boy. The words to all of the songs were projected on the screen so that everyone could follow along. Next came the dance troupe led by Brian Crumblehulme. The troupe demonstrated Irish dances and then got the AMIB folks onto the dance floor to teach them the steps. Not an easy task to get into synch but a lot of laughter helped! |
